Blue Cross of California Introduces Vision Plans for Groups

Starting in August of 2004, Blue Cross of California will offer small group subscribers the option of a vision plan, which will have two levels of coverage. These are PPO plans offering in-network choice of ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians, which includes LensCraftersÔ , Target Optical, Sears Optical and most Pearle Vision locations. Network providers can choose the labs they use, so members can receive eyewear faster than ever. Out-of-network services are covered on a reimbursement basis.

All newly enrolled groups will receive an initial 24 month rate guarantee. Contribution levels start as low as 50% per employee for EmployeeElect. Participation requirement is 75% for EmployeeElect. There are no waiting periods. There are no rating areas. The plans are eligible for CalCOBRA and COBRA. Existing health groups may add vision coverage throughout the year.

*Coverage for these PPO vision plans includes choice of spectacle lenses OR contact lenses, not both.
